There is also a small hole in the upper left quadrant as well as an area of surface wear where the finish and printing has come off (see photos). There is surface wear and crinkling consistent with the age of the item. Please carefully inspect the photos for item details and full condition. -All posters and prints will be shipped rolled, in a shipping tube via USPS First Class Mail unless otherwise noted. -Items are sold "as is" and any damage will be noted in the condition description. A framed copy of this same poster was hanging in the attic of the United States Senate Library. The following information was in a December 20, 1998 article by Joel Achenbach in the Washington Post: "...Workers have been painting the Senate chamber, as well as the office of the majority leader, Trent Lott (R-Miss.). And yesterday, as it happens, was moving day for the Senate library. Workers in blue uniforms were carting boxes over to the Russell Senate Office Building, emptying out an archive that fills two floors. An old industrial-strength metal staircase leads to an attic full of bound volumes of the Congressional Record, maps, atlases and a framed poster called "Shift of Civilization," showing a time line of the entire history of humankind, written early in the century by someone named Samuel Wyer. It announced: 'Mentally, 'Shift of Civilization' means how man has shifted from cowering fear to conquering courage. This involves: the conquest of fear, superstition, prejudice, custom, intolerance, worship of fixed truth, and sublimation of debating activities into fact-finding activities . . . '" Just to clarify, the poster in this listing is not the same physical poster from the Senate attic. This is just a bit of interesting trivia that a copy of the same poster hung in the U.S. Senate library in 1998. Please see the photos for more details.
