Description: This is an Antique 1861 - 1915 French M1866 Chassepot Yataghan Sword Bayonet. This Bayonet is in Very Good Condition. There is wear from age and use, with very mild pitting in places, a slightly blunted tip, and a slightly wavy blade. See last three pictures for close up of these areas. This French model Bayonet was designed to fit on the French Model 1866 Chassepot Rifled Infantry Musket. It was manufactured from 1866 to about 1874 and was replaced by the French model 1874 "Gras" bayonet. The Bayonet is 27 3/8" long. The Blade alone is 22 1/2" long. The Bayonet weighs 1 LB 6 OZ. Most of the items I sell are estate finds, and are presented to you in, as is, as found condition.
