Description: Extremely rare 1821 hand colored etching print of George Nicholls, famous British bare knuckle boxer, printed directly from the original engraving.George Nicholls was one of the greatest early bare knuckle boxers in British history. He was born in 1775 and his career extended from 1792 until around 1815. His greatest legacy is that in 1805 he was the only boxer to ever defeat Tom Cribb.The overall measurement of the paper is approximately 4 1/2 x 6 3/4 inches with the size of the actual oval printed area measuring about 3 7/8 x 5 1/4 inches. This 202 year old hand colored print has a lot of foxing and/or oxidation spots. Additionally it has fairly light age wrinkling, mostly on the left border and a few tiny border tears. The paper is very brittle.The original drawing was by George Sharples and the engraving that this was printed directly from was by Percy Roberts. This print was removed from the original 1821 Sherwood, Neely & Jones publication and was hand colored by an unknown artist.This print is 203 years old. Authenticity is fully guaranteed.
