Description: Ancient MAYA fragment PRE-COLUMBIAN Honduran TERRACOTTA Maya terracotta fragment –most of its body is intact. Appears to be a handle of a pot of some type vessel. Maya face, elaborate headdress, earplugs and a beard. It is some what disabled as it is missing an arm and leg. At its stomach there is a oval embellishmentIt measures about 3 inches high x 1 1/2 inches wide (from one side of the headdress to the other) x 1 3/4 inches (depth nose to area where it was once attached).I purchased this fragment at Artesanias Candú in Tegucigalpa when I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras from 1976-1979. At the time Candú along with selling Honduran arts and crafts they sold Maya artifacts as they were located near the Hotel Maya. Contemporary farmers would plow up these fragments and sell them to the Artesanias Candú in the city since tourists shopped there.
