This results in a rock-tight fit, without the use of a screw. Preferred by many collectors for their clean lines and traditional look, One-Piece style grips can be removed by removing the three backstrap screws, and pulling the grip and strap backwards. Reinstallation is in reverse order. Note: if using One-Piece style grips on gripframes currently set up for Two-Piece grips (i.e., frames where there is a grip pin installed in the frame), the grip pin must first be pressed or tapped out of the frame prior to installation to enable later removal of the grips.Alternatively, our Two-Piece style grips offer the superior convenience of quick grip removal (i.e., the backstrap need not be removed to remove the grips). Our Two-Piece grips will also work on either style of gripframe. In addition to the screw and pre-installed hardware, our Two-Piece grips come with our exclusive free Conversion Kit to enable their use on a One-Piece style grip frame without any modification to your revolver. Our conversion kit replaces the need for a grip pin and is actually a stronger design, and locks the grips up tight against the frame, allowing no movement. American Western Arms (AWA) first began importing parts for their 1873 revolver around the year 1998, with finishing and assembly being performed in the United States. The Longhorn was the basic model, while the Peacekeeper featured a higher quality of fit and finish. After being successfully sued by Colt for Trademark (“Trade Dress”) infringement, AWA made the appropriate changes (including removing the name “Peacekeeper” from their production), and began marketing their 1873 as the “Classic” and “Ultimate”.AWA issued their revolvers with both one-piece and two-piece grip configurations. As stated above, no matter which frame type you have, both our One-Piece and Two-Piece style grips will work with either frame type. If your revolver has a grip pin installed, it may be necessary to remove it and use our conversion kit if purchasing a set of Two-Piece style grips. Vastly superior to standard bonded ivory or stag found on most factory and other aftermarket grips, Magna-Tusk™ is capable of withstanding the heaviest recoil and impact, and is the toughest alternative grip material available today, while still retaining the pristine look of real ivory or stag. It is rock-solid, stable, and water, chemical, and oil resistant. It is flame and heat resistant, and is entirely void-free, with over 10x the strength, durability, and impact resistance of alternative materials. Unlike with real ivory or stag, there is no routine care and maintenance involved, with no danger of it drying out and cracking if not maintained properly or if left in the heat. In addition, the material has a fine grain structure, which holds intricate detail for carvings, artistic relief work, etc., found on many historic grips. 082920 About Our Aging Process: We go to great efforts to ensure that our Aged Ivory or Stag not only looks similar to, but in fact looks identical to the real thing. Our Magna-Tusk blanks will produce an aged Ivory grip unlike any other material made today. Our aged grips feature an authentic aged patina, just like the originals, with a process incorporating concentrated U.V. light (the essential aging property in natural sunlight), along with a developer/control agent that is put on the grips to carefully control U.V. absorption, in a sealed, high-oxygen environment to accelerate the natural aging process. Through this aging process, these grips become beautifully mottled, variegated, and weathered just like old, antique Ivory, and incorporate other authentic details found on original old Ivory as seen on many of the revolvers which belonged to gunfighters and lawmen of the Old West. As with real aged Ivory, Magna-Tusk develops a variegated patina due to its authentic grain structure, and natural aging produces an authentic appearance and genuine patina which extends into and below the surface. Not only does this give it the appearance of authenticity and depth, but this surface will not chip, crack, or peel like a superficially applied coating. With Magna-Tusk aged grips, most experts cannot tell them apart from a decades-old or even a centuries-old original. While the quality difference is somewhat noticeable in the photos, the difference is even more apparent when seen and handled in person.
