Description: Offered here is an original painting by well listed Irish artist Alexander Williams circa 1884. Painting is oil on wood panel and measures ~7 3/4 x 10 3/4 inches. The overall framed size is ~15 1/2 x 19 inches. Painting is signed lower left 'A. Williams ARHA .84.' (ARHA means Associate member of Royal Hibernian Academy). Condition of painting is very good and includes 19th century framing. --------------- Alexander Williams (1846-1930) Landscape and marine painter Alexander Williams studied at the RDS Drawing Schools. In 1870 he first exhibited at the RHA and from then until 1930 he showed no fewer than 450 works and never missed a single exhibition in sixty years. He was also a member of the Belfast Art Society. His first London show was at the Modern Gallery, Bond Street in 1901. In the National Gallery of Ireland he is represented by his oil 'Rocky Cliffs By The Sea' and by a watercolour 'A House by a River'. His work can also be seen at the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery of Modern Art.
