Description: Albert Schweitzer: Genius in the Jungle by Jeremy Gollomb, printed by the Vanguard Press, N.Y. 2nd printing dated 1949. The incredible story of Dr. Schweitzer and his wife turning their backs on the comforts of home and civilization and landing in West Africa in the year 1913 to help the natives. Their mission was to build a hospital at Lamabrene. The hospital ...was built...and it is said "with their bare hands". For 36 years it was a haven for cannibals, lepers, and other natives who new nothing of the outside world. He and his wife ministered to the natives both their physical and spiritual needs. Their story is about a heroic struggle against a jungle ridden with superstition and disease, people who were savages and wild beasts which roamed everywhere. The book presents a clear and challenging picture of this great man's courage and devotion. Book is in good condition. Spine remains strong. A book you cannot put down once you begin their journey.
