Description: Listing is for one cutting of: +1" Akalaphycus setchelliae/ syn. Rhodopeltis setchelliae Lighting Req.: 50-150 PPFD Flow Req.: Any Growth Rate: Slow Palatability: Somewhat Nutrient Uptake: Low Notes: Originally sold to me under the genus Rhodopeltis, I've found out that on five species are known under that genus. Which is odd since most algae have dozens of species under a single genus. Delving a but further I've found that all five species have since been recategorized under new genuses leaving Rhodopeltis as an unaccepted deprecated synonym. Furthermore reading into a peer reviewed paper of a study done by Sherwood & Guiry (2023) surveying the extended Hawaiian archipelago reinforces the fact that Akalaphycus setchelliae is one of the most widespread tropical species of that genus (Akalaphycus/Rhodopeltis). Hence I've surmised that this is probably the species I currently have. Plus the pictures they took look an awful lot like the same species just yellowy and bleached. Probably since it was sampled at a shallower depth (Gracilaria does this too). DISCLAIMER: Due to the small size of my operation, I can't guarantee live arrival. However please do take a photo of the unopened package and after that one more of the contents within 1-2 hours of delivery; then I can issue a refund if there is damage to the algae and the bags are broken. In any case I'll be sure to include a little bit extra with every order. Please keep in mind the current weather in your area before ordering. I ship algae with insulation, but it will still be defeated by a hot mailbox or frozen porch eventually if left unattended.
