Description: Husband Edward Kimmel [1882 1968] was a United States Navy four-star admiral who was commander in chief of the United States Pacific Fleet [CINCPACFLT] during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. After the attack he was removed from command and was reverted back to his permanent two-star rank of rear admiral, and he retired from the Navy in 1942. After extensive investigations into the attack on Pearl Harbor, many feel Admiral Kimmel was treated unfairly and was the obvious scapegoat to blame. In 1999, the United States Senate voted to restore Kimmel's permanent rank to four-stars, but this act has not been enacted till this day. Listed for auction is a book titled, Admiral Kimmel's Story which is signed by Admiral Husband Edward Kimmel. The book was originally released in 1954, authored by Admiral Kimmel and was his story of the events leading to December 7, 1941. The book approaches the issue using the argument that the admiral was denied access to very important documents, and intercepted messages that could have allowed the ships at Pearl Harbor to take defensive measures against the approaching Japanese fleet. The book is a hardcover [6x9] Copyright 1955 with 206 pages and is inscribed to Bill Pye and signed on the opening blank page as follows, ''with my regards. This record of the truth about Pearl Harbor as I know it, Husband E. Kimmel February 1955'' in blue fountain pen. Bill Pye was Vice Admiral of the United States Navy, William Pye [1880 1959] who was a veteran of both World Wars and served as the President of the Naval War College. Interesting fact, Pye stated on December 6, 1941 ''The Japanese will not go to war with the United States. We are too big, too powerful, and too strong.'' Even more ironic, it was Admiral Pye who replaced Admiral Kimmel when he was relieved from his command on December 17, 1941, and served as acting commander until the arrival of Admiral Chester Nimitz on December 31, 1941. [You can't make this stuff up!] The book is in very good condition, the spine is tight, there is even toning to the pages and general wear to the cover overall a very nice copy. The autograph of Admiral Kimmel is not common to obtain, this example is authentic, and the book is a very desirable format to obtain the autograph of Admiral Kimmel, on his own story of the historic events of December 7, 1941.
