" Born(1959), Hopi/Tewa, Corn Clan, active 1970-present Adelle is the Great-granddaughter of Nampeyo; granddaughter of Fannie Polacca Nampeyo; daughter of Richard and Elva Tewaguna Nampeyo; sister of Elton Nampeyo, Miriam Tewaguna Nampeyo and Neva Polacca Choyou Nampeyo." Reference: Hopi-Tewa Pottery: 500 Artist Biographies by Gregory Schaaf. This beautiful Sikyatki style pottery shaped seed jar is decorated with traditional Nampeyo Hopi eagle design elements. There are 4 panels, each panel with a star & four corners motif as well as eagle talons/feathers below each. The top center circle is surrounded by a red square. There is a geometric star design atop each of the tail feathers, adjacent to which is the eagle talon design. It is symmetrical and well balanced in shape and design. It has a beautiful cream slip polished background with reddish orange (red umber) and black painted design. These designs are reminiscent of ancestral Hopi pottery. The color palette is earth toned featuring shades of red, brown and black. These colors evoke the Arizona desert landscape. Hopi pottery is hand coiled, painted with natural paints made from Bee Weed plant, minerals and painted with a Yucca brush. Pots are covered in sheep dung and fired outdoors. Hopi pottery is renowned for its intricate designs, often reflecting the tribe's spiritual beliefs, ceremonies, and daily life.
