Description: Here is another nice thumbnail, this one a mass of intricate Acanthite crystals, as they became famous from finds at the San Juan de Rajas mine in Guanaguato, Mexico. They are called pseudomorphs after Argentite, which would be appropriate to call it, as Argentite is not stable as a mineral under 177 degree Celcius, and when below will convert to Acanthite. So all Argentite you will see, is always going to be Acanthite. The question then comes up if all Acanthite would be Argentite above this temperature threshold. I think so, both are Silver sulfides formations at a different temperature. Aside from this, these are excellent arborescent, almost hoppered crystals from this famous Mexican locality, now hard to find. FYI, this mine is one of the oldest continuous silver mines in Mexico, and was discovered in 1585(!) Please be advised, I ship with Ground advantage.
