A System of Modern Geography HC 1836 I am pleased to present for your viewing and potential bid a rare, hardcover, antique copy of A System of Modern Geography. Written by Nathaniel G. Huntingon, A. M. and published by R. White, and Hutchison, & Dwier in 1836. Front cover has "Eighth Edition; For Schools, Academies, and Families, designed to answer the twofold purpose of a correct guide to the student and of a geographical reading book." Part of the front cover is missing but I see a picture. Below that is "Illustrated by a variety of cuts and tables, and accompanied by a new and beautiful atlas." Measures about 4-1/2" x 7" x 1" and consists of 306 pages. Cover is leather. Piece along top of spine is missing; boards showing through on front cover; same for the back cover. Pencil markings on some pages and on end pages. Some pages are browned, but not brittle. Foxing of pages which is consistent with a book of this age. There are 55 throughout the book. I'd say they are all of good quality but many pages have some foxing so it affects many of the pictures. Most of the engravings are from the United States area; though many foreign countries have engravings, I'd guess the majority are from the US. A book about Geography of the World (from what I can tell from the index). There are places here I've never heard of and can't begin to list them all. Noted defects: Pages 35 - 38 have piece missing entire top to bottom of page on right side of page when looking from the left. Small piece missing at bottom of pages 41-42 which doesn't affect content. Pages 99 - 106 detached from book, but present. Pages 111- 112 detached from book, but present. Pages 135 - 136 tear left to right on page. Pages 184 - 188 pages are missing. Pages 181 - 192 tear with piece missing upper right hand corner of page when looking from the left; content missing.
