He began writing in 1967, when he participated in a literary contest promoted by the OAS and met Francisco Assis Barbosa, who greatly encouraged him to continue writing. In 1969, in a short story contest, he wins first place, being awarded a trip to the United States, where he stays for five months. But what the poet considers really important at the beginning of his literary career was the award he received at the Festival da Poesia da Guanabara, at the João Caetano Theater, "because it was the time I had very close contact with the general public". He graduated from the Faculty of Law Cândido Mendes in 1973, joined the Instituto Rio Branco and began his diplomatic career. He goes to Brasília, where he launches the debut book CON TRA OS MOINHOS DE VENTO - a collection of poetry and chroniclespoetics written between 1975 and 1978.
