Description: 9.5" Rare Unusual Bisque Character Mechanical c. 1900. These two incredible character dolls sit together on a bench with their unique instruments. The bench is secured atop a beautiful wooden box with a small hand crank on the front. When wound, the box emits a bright 6-note tune. As the music plays one understands it is their duet - the doll on the left holds a wind instrument and turns his head left and right. The doll on the right clasps an accordion and his right arm guides his whole upper body, including his head, in a twisting motion to expand and contract the delicate instrument. Both dolls have flawless bisque heads with almost cartoonish features: pointed chins, large noses, round rosy cheeks, and large pointed ears. You can see the smile lines, eye creases, and forehead wrinkles from these men's ever joyful expressions. They have brown, one-stroke eyebrows, kind, pale blue glass eyes, cheery pink cheeks and noses, and wide, close-mouthed grins. They both have light blonde, curly hair and wear ornate caps that compliment each of their outfits, giving them resemblance to jesters. Engraved on the back of the red-capped one's neck is 76 with 924 below it. The other doll seems to have 924 marked on him as well, but it is difficult to see with the positioning of his hair and clothing (pictured). These playful dolls have wooden bodies and armature upper arms and thighs. They also have exquisite, hand-carved and painted wooden forearms, hands, calves, and feet. The wood and paint shows a little wear, as is natural for this item's age. You can still clearly see the painted blue and orange shoes and their cream colored stockings. The dolls also wear remarkably detailed silk on-piece outfits, which are decorated with lace and ribbon. The clothes have some holes, dirt, and signs of wear, but are all original and truly elegant. They sit on a nice wooden bench, decked with lace trim and reddish fabric. The wind instrument is hand-carved wood and the accordion is intricately folded paper with a shiny golden star print on either end. The bench is perched over a whimsical print with more gold stars and a burgundy design. Anyone would stop in their tracks to get a closer look at this amazing antique piece.Video Link: https://youtu.be/24TCI1X8ZQw(hold control and click the link at the same time, it should take you straight to the video) Shipping and Handling It is very difficult to accurately calculate the shipping cost.
