Early in the morning on January 19th, the rhythm masters Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones, who were all indispensable to the new jazz pioneered by Miles Davis, arrived in Los Angeles. The one-day section kicks off with Art Pepper, who was at the height of his powers as a West Coast icon. The opening song, "Youd be so nice to come home to," was so good that it surpassed Brownies soulful performance. This one song alone decided the fate of the work. The album was praised as a "definitive masterpiece that will go down in jazz history."
