Description: 6ft Castable Shark Fishing Rig - Choose Hook Size. - 400lb test leaders- All hardware is at least 400lb These are the leaders that I use on all my casting rods. I have caught a ton of sharks on these. These leaders should be used to target sharks up to 6-1/2 feet and smaller. I have also caught a lot of large redfish and stingray on these. MOUSETRAP LEADER- This leader uses a sliding weight to mimic a mousetrap style hook set. Cast out the bait using the method shown in the third picture so that the weight and bait is together. Walk the rod back to the rod holder after casting and place the rod in the rod holder and tighten the line. When a fish takes the bait, it will pull the line easily until the spider weight hits the swivel. This will set the hook into the fish. Once the spider weight is pulled from the sand, the rod (already bent from the pull) will pull against the fish finishing the "mousetrap" hook up. HAVE A PLAN- Before you use this rig, have a plan on what you are going to do after you catch a shark. If you are going to keep the shark to eat, make sure you can properly identify the shark. Some sharks are completely illegal to harvest regardless of size. If you can't 100% identify a shark it is probably best to release it (there are much better fish out there to eat anyway). In order to release a shark and have it swim off without dying, you should aim to have it back swimming in less than 5 minutes from landing it. In warmer water temps, it should be 3 minutes or less. I cut the barbs off the hooks I use so that the hooks are easier to take out. If possible, keep the gills under water. Most of all be safe and don't get bit. Sharks can only move side to side on the sand. Standing in front of them or behind them is the safest place. Have a "shark release bag" handy with everything you may need to release the shark quickly and no have to run back and find things. If you have questions please ask me. You can see my catches and my team's catches by looking at Just Bitten Shark Fishing Team on Texas Shark Rodeo. These leaders are compliant with the Shark Fishing Regulations of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The hooks used on this rig are "non-stainless steel" and "non-offset" Circle Hook To cast this leader, attach a spider weight to the snap swivel, bait the hook and hang the hook from one of the legs on the spider weight. This will put all of weight in one location and allow better casting. Once you have casted the bait will free itself from the spider weight. Shipping - With all of my fishing leader auctions, the shipping is combined on multiple orders. The shipping cost will be automatically calculated at checkout based on the total weight of the items you ordered. In order for this to work correctly you must make one purchase with all items included. You can do this by using the "Add to Cart" feature. I do my best to have all items packaged the same day that you place the order. Items should ship out the following morning. However, if I am fishing (which I am quite often), The package will be mailed as soon as I get back.
