The 1115th Engineer Combat Group was organized in 1942, with the 82nd Engineer Combat Battalion as its nucleus. Five other units, listed below the title, comprised the group for most of its operations through the European Theater of War. During the campaign, the 1115th constructed nearly two miles of bridges; each of which is listed individually with its length, date, and constructing units. These ranged in size from a four foot ditch cover to a massive 1000′ floating pontoon bridge. The chart also shows the emblems of “organizations supported by the 1115th Engineer Combat Group,” centered on the XIX Corps. Areas shaded gray highlight where the 1115th operated: from Normandy through northern France, Belgium, and into Holland before traversing Germany to the Elbe River. The dashed line follows the 1115th 'route of march'. Underlined town accompanied by dates likely refer to the 1115th's establishment of command posts as it fought across the continent. 100 numbers in circles mark where units attached to the 1115th built bridges. These correspond with an index on the sixth sheet, which notes the type of bridge built, its length, the date of construction, and the nearest town. Some bridges were built at the same location twice, suggesting they were destroyed and rebuilt. Major cities included to provide geographical context.
