With the supply of the original THALES Lithium Ion 18650 based battery pack discontinued we felt there was a need for a battery with the logic required to communicate with the Radio allowing it to run at its full 5 watt output. Some special requirements were to create a Battery that would last 2 days (3 in our testing) for 1st responder operating in the field without access to AC or have chargers on hand. We use the 21700 cell which is the new improved battery that the latest Tesla Cars use. The battery can be charged from any 12.9 to 32VDC power source. If you charge directly and the source is 5 or more Amps a totally flat battery will charge in roughly 2 1/2 Hours! The CC/CV buck converter will take roughly 5 hours to charge but is easier on the battery giving you a longer service life. If you charge directly from a car battery or a high enough current supply you can charge and operate at the same time. *Unlike any other chargers we've seen. The battery can be left to trickle charge with minimal current draw keeping the battery ready to go. As with my radio refurbishing this battery (and reconditioned / cleaned) THALES/RACAL 25 (PRC6894) radios available on another listing are focused on Civil Air Patrol Ground Team members or other 1st responder folks. My wife Sarah and I designed this and use 3 brand new 21700 type batteries (Such as are used in the latest Tesla Car / Power Walls) These provide 5,000mAh versus the original THALES/RACAL battery which used 3 type16850 cells that provided 1,800mAh. The 21700 battery radio combo is slightly larger then the original Thales / Racal battery but still fits in the Military Pouch for hanging on your Field Gear. Unlike the original THALES/RACAL battery our design does not limit the number of charges through its Battery Management System. Your satisfaction is our goal and if you are unhappy in anyway with your purchases from us we will repair, replace or refund your money and with the exception of equipment physically broken (by impact or water damage) will protect your purchase as long as you think is reasonable.
