Nelson’s Ledges (Ohio) is known for many things – those incrediblequartz and sandstone cliffs, the concerts, the hiking, the drinking, the drugsbut when I moved to Ohio in the 1980s, I was more interested in taking my youngdaughter to the state park for a picnic and a long walk. Imagine my surprise whenI discovered that the arcade from the old amusement park was still open. When Icame, they were trying to sell the machines and the mementos from NelsonLedges' old arcade. Unable to fit an old fortune-telling machine in my little Vegahatchback (or able to afford it), I settled for an old Nelson’s Ledges Amusement Park sign and mydaughter happily purchased four cards from that big OLD fortune-tellingmachine. The four were a set of cards outlining “Your Ideal Love Mate.” Wepacked up our treasures in the Vega and set out for a day of adventures. It wasgreat fun. I packed away the sign and the 4perfect cards into a box and forgot all about them until last week. Well, I was cleaning out a closet and a found the sign(which I framed) and decided to sell that set of “Your Ideal Love Mate” cardson ebay. These are four cardsmeasuring about 5-3/8 in by about 3-1/4 in. They are dated 1941, EX. Sup. Co, Chicago. Each one has a picture of adashing your man, framed by a heart. Each one provides a summary of the man’sattributes that makes a woman’s heart flutter. They are printed only on one side and they are perfect. They were never loaded into that big old fortune-telling machine. And you know the story behind them. And what makes them even better, a portion of the proceeds of this sale goes to the American Red Cross. If you have ever been to Nelson's Ledges or enjoyed some other cliffs, you want to get these cards. You won't see them again because not many people have treasures like these from Nelson's Ledges in such good condition.
