Description: You will receive 3 rhizomes with trimmed leaves, roots wrapped in damp paper towels. Please plant & water asap! Each Iris is separated from healthy plants in my own garden & will have many healthy roots. Before shipping, the entire plant will be scrubbed of all dirt etc. & rinsed in a 5% bleach/water solution to remove any pests and whatnot. These Irises grow from Rhizomes, rather than bulbs, meaning they will multiply & can be separated every 2-5 years! The leaves can reach 18 inches, the blooms can grow to 24 inches+ CARE: SUN: Bearded irislikes sufficient sunlight. It needs to receive more than 6 hours of light per day and can be planted in a garden with no shade. It can also grow in slightly shady environments, but the quality of its blooms and disease resistance may decrease. SOIL:loose, fertile, and well-drained soil, but can also grow in dry and barren earth. It likes slightly acidic or neutral soil with a pH value of 6.0-7.0. PLANTING: best toplant in the summer. Choose a spot with ample sunlight and good drainage, and turn up the soil to 25 cm deep. Then topdress with fertilizer and mix in evenly. When planting, you cancut the leavesto 3-5" in length, which helpsreduce water evaporation and increase the survival rates. Finally, cover the rhizome in the soil. Avoid letting the roots get dehydrated for too long during planting, and water right after planting. SEPARATING RHIZOMES: When to divide? Do this taskafter flowering finishesand then trim the foliage back to sixinches. Shortly after blooming (mid-summer), carefully dig up the clump of irises. Youll find that the original rhizome that you planted (the mother) has produced several offshootrhizomes. Separate these rhizomesfrom the mother with a sharp knife and discard of the mother, as it will no longer produceblooms. Inspect the rhizomes for any rotting tissue or other signs of disease, removing and discarding infected parts or entire unhealthyrhizomes. Trim the iris foliage down to 3 to 5 inches in height so that the plants can focus on establishing newroots. Plant these freshrhizomes in a new bed, replant them where they were before (after adding new soil)
