Description: Max Pechstein was one of the formative woodcut artists in the German Expressionist group Die Brucke of 1906.His was the black and white style of the group.Angular ,modernist images of angry ,sad and harsh faces. It was a new age for these artists ,the bridge between the staid art of the past and the exciting modernism of the future.Pechstein left the group in 1912 and joined the German army in 1915 but, disillusioned by war, he became a socialist after it.In the 1930's The Nazis called his art degenerate and he fell out of favour. This linocut,6"X4",signed and dated 2023, limited edition of 25 is by Bill Payne, born in 1951, and living in Worcestershire.A huge fan of the Die Brucke genre. He is a gallery and museum artist. This image is influenced by Pechstein's 1921 woodcut of the three stages of prayer in this case the Lord's Prayer."Thine is the Kingdom" (Dein ist das Reich).I have put just two people in prayer .And a bit of green and orange.
