Description: This is a hardcover book with dust Jacket, 9 1/4" x 6 1/4",341 pages, entitled "IIF IN THE GHOST COUNTRY: A Lifetime Spent On THe Edge." The book was written by Peter HIllary (who signed the book on the back of the front cover - see my scan #2) and John E. Elder, it is copyright 2003, and published by Free Press, A Division Of Simon & Schuster... The book is a very well-written account of the summer of 1998-99, when Peter Hillary and 2 companions set out to to ski to The South Pole and back, attempting to complete the tragic journey of Robert Scott in 1912, when Scott and 5 companias died not far from The South Pole. However, Hillary and his two companions strongly disagreed about their food allotments and their fuel supply, and their expedition soon fragmented into hostility. All alone, the trek became Hillary's lonlliest and most isolated trek of his life. I won't write any more abut the book, but believe me, it was an excellent read. It is in absolutely mint condition, except for the fact that a former owner wrote an inscription and signature on the top left corner of page 2, a blank page. . The dust jacket is also in mint condition. Buyer pays $4.70 shipping. NOtE: Peter Hillary's father, Edmund Hillary, was the first man to climb to the summit of Mt. Everest. He and a partner did it in 1953. Peter climbed to the summit of Mt. Everest in 1990.
