The ground wire has the ability to be lifted from the shielded RJ-45 connector inside the etherCON shell. After removing the etherCON shell you'll see that the ground wire is crimped under the metal strain relief of the RJ-45 connector. Remove the ground wire from under the strain relief and cut it off or tape it up if you want to reinstall it later.
