Description: Alphonse Karr Bamboo Bambusa Multiplex “Alphonse Karr / Golden Hedge” This listing is for 20 bamboo divisions. Basically, a division is the propagation process we use when we are creating more inventory to sell. We take a mature plant and divide the roots into smaller sections, each with at least one cane. The division may or may not have leaves - we will trim the cane at the 1st or 2nd node and it will be 9 to 18 inches tall. We have very good success with these divisions survival and we would expect you too as well. The 4th picture is an example of a bamboo division (Green Hedge, not Alphonse Karr). Now, below, more about the Alphonse Karr bamboo overall. The colors of Alphonse Karr are very striking. It is a yellow bamboo with green vertical stripes and has a red / rose highlight when the canes emerge that gradually fade over the first year of that canes life. The canes can grow to 25 feet tall if left untrimmed and the canes will be 1.5 inches in diameter at maturity. Within 4 years, the base will be approximately 3.5 feet in diameter. Alphonse Karr will make a beautiful specimen/focal point planting, screen or hedge. Fully hardy in growing zones 8 to 11, it’s roots will survive zone 7 winters and for those winters that are harsh enough to kill the top growth, she will push up new growth in the spring. As you may be aware, bamboo has growth spurts and can grow several inches a day and quickly re-establish after a freeze. Supplemental watering needed for the first year only. Alphonse Karr is happy in shade to full fun. While Alphonse Karr will reach 25 feet in height, if you wish a more controlled growth, this bamboo can be trimmed to a much shorter hedge. Bamboo canes, when cut, will produce significant side growth that will extend approximately 2 feet above the height of the cut cane. Once a cane is cut, it will not grow taller, but rather the side shoots and leaves become thicker and bushier. This makes a very nice and thick hedge. Imagine a hedge that you never have to cut a branch more than once during its lifetime! A great labor saver! When I grew bamboo as a hedge, I trimmed it once a year when the new canes were growing and then I was done!No shipments to ARIZONA.Your plants are guaranteed to arrive safely and alive.
