2 wood block 101 planes w/ Pritz Patent handles Millers Falls & brass Washington

Description: You are bidding on two 101 style wood block planes each with a Pritz Patent rear handle as pictured. One of the planes has some serious condition issues, so please keep reading. Pritz was from Washington state, not normally a hotbed of tool patents! Both handles are yellow plastic, and both handles are marked "PAT NO 2358997". Each is attached to the plane with a small screw coming up from underneath the plane. Each handle is a bit under 1" in diameter.The cast iron plane with the japanned finish is unmarked on the body, and marked on the iron with "MILLERS FALLS MILLERS FALLS TOOLS SINCE 1868 GREENFIELD MASS MADE IN USA". Overall length of the body is about 3-7/16". Except for the handle and screw and screw hole, it appears to be a Millers Falls Number 33 block plane. The plane with the brass body is unmarked on the body and unmarked on the iron. The body, the cap, and the cap screw are all brass, while the blade is steel. Overall length of the body is about 3-9/16". Robert F Pritz of Walla Walla, Washington, was awarded patent 2,358,997, on September 26, 1944, for his "woodworking tool", which was the patent for the handle. Condition of the plane with the Millers Falls blade is good to very good. The plane itself would benefit from a cleaning, including a bit of white paint to remove, and most of the original black finish is intact. The iron has a bit of patina (color) on the front, and some light rust on the back side. The plastic handle is intact, but has a speckled appearance to the outside surface of the plastic, which would benefit from a cleaning. I briefly tried to unscrew the handle screw, and it seemed quite happy right where it was, and I didn't pursue removing it any more.A quick visit to Randy Roeder's great Millers Falls Homepage site yielded that the Millers Falls Number 33 block plane (this plane) started out with the black body and red cap, switched to the black cap around 1936, and then switched to the grey enamel body and red cap around 1952. The handle patent was issued in 1944, and this plane was made before 1952, so the handle certainly could be original to this plane. Condition of the brass plane is good, except for the handle which is rough. The plane has some file marks on the right side, probably done when the casting was finished. The iron has some patina (color) and rust. There is a lot of tarnish around the post in the vicinity of the handle as can be seen. The plastic handle has broken at the base, with a large chunk missing, and there are lots of cracks farther up the handle as can be seen. The head of the screw is half broken off, and I didn't make any attempt to remove it.The winner gets both planes! The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it's not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30" long, because those longer packages won't fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay.
