Description: A pair of photos showing Mr. Hayashi (His family name) and either "Yashinosuke" or Minosuke" as his given name. He's the one with a fan in his hand and bandages on his face. There is no explanation on the back. The type of flags in the background are usually bought when a son, husband or father were going off to war during WW2. These flags would be displayed in front of the home, and bought by friends, neighbors and family who would come to wish good luck to the person leaving. That he already has bandages on his face is something to wonder about. Was he wounded and sent home for leave before being sent back again? In both photos there also looks to be something white under his kimono on the right side of his chest. Another bandage? There are a lot of flags here. They would have been bought by many people and his name would have been handwritten on them, usually by someone with beautiful writing. He was popular. His kimono has samurai crests on it. (Similar to a knights crest in Europe) An indication his ancestors were samurai, and something to be proud of. These are original photos. Not copies. The silver can still be seen from when they were developed. They're both 4 3/8 x 6 inches We have been selling Japanese antiques for 26 years.
