Description: 2 ANTIQUE Wire & Leather Clad PALMER COX BROWNIE Dolls, Hand Painted, Poseable Click images to enlarge Description 2 ANTIQUE BROWNIE DOLLS Rare and early antique Brownie dolls, each measuring about 5" in size. Featuring all the charming little details that made these characters instantly popular when first introduced in 1883, they are designed wearing iconic elf pointed caps, long jackets, neck scarves, skinny legs and elongated feet - made of sturdy wire forms with wood hands, they have been clad in soft leather with hand painted features. Created by Palmer Cox in magazine and later book form about a group of Brownies, members of the fairy world, in a variety of male characters and forms - these dolls are early, dating around 1910. Condition is very nice with minor play wear - faces feature paint rubbing, there are splits in the shoes as shown, one hat tip is missing, and I think they may have had fine leather covering the wood hands - leather has minor wear - colors are soft pink and spring green. Whimsical and humorous, they are just so unusual and fun - they can probably be posed a bit, but I was afraid to bend them. Charming addition to any Palmer Cox Brownie, fairy or elf collection or display! If questions, please contact me - thanks and good luck! Images sell!
