Description: 1993 Mattel "Egyptian Queen" Barbie, The Great Eras Collection, Cleopatra, Last Pharaoh, Golden Age, num. 11397 “The name Cleopatra wakens the world to life.” ― Carmen Boullosa, Cleopatra Dismounts "Egyptian Queen" Barbie takes us back to the time of the 18th dynasty, from around 1567 to 1320 B.C.. Called the Golden Age of Egypt, this period included the reign of King Tug whose tomb was discovered in 1922. Barbie wears a golden headdress with the vulture feather design indicating royalty. Her skirt is white transparent fabric with pleats signifying the rays of the sun god. An exquisite blue panel falls from her waist with a golden pattern that simulates the Ancient Egyptianuse of threads of real gold metal, pounded and shaped to fit through a needle. Golden sandals adorn her feet. Our queens raven hair brings out her sparkling eyes with rooted lashes. Her make-up depicts the Ancient Egyptian manner: eyes lined with kohl, lids glimmer with a greenish shadow of ores and minerals made into a powder and mixed on a slate palette. Red ocher colors her lips. A dazzling golden collar with beads decorates the royal neck as golden armlets encircle her wrists. Jewelry of this era was made with gold and semiprecious stones, such as carnelian, lapis, lazuli and malachite. Popular designs were lotus blossoms, the eye of Horus for protection, and sacred scarab beetles.
