Description: Dramatic photograph taken from outer space shows Hurricane Andrew as it crossed southern Florida more than 30 years ago. This satellite image was taken by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the postcard was printed by Historic Publications, Charleston, South Carolina. The card measures 4" x 6" and is unused. Andrew was a relatively small and ferocious Cape Verde hurricane that wrought unprecedented economic devastation along a path through the northwestern Bahamas, the southern Florida peninsula, and south-central Louisiana. It struck southern Dade County, Florida, on August 24, 1992, and left 250,000 people homeless. Thirty-eight died from the storm, and damage was estimated at $30 billion, which the text on this card says made "Andrew the nation's costliest natural disaster" — which it was until Hurricane Katrina made landfall just over a dozen years later. Condition: This original postcard is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with strong corners and no rips, tears, or creases. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
