The medal is bronze, three inches in diameter, heavy and in uncirculated condition. It comes in the original mint package, with information about the medal, a plastic stand and the mint box. The obverse depicts a waterfall and a sequoia tree in a park scene, along with the name YOSEMITE. The reverse features a view of Yosemite National Park and a quotation by author and naturalist John Nuir: "CLIMB THE MOUNTAINS AND GET THEIR GOOD TIDINGS".
