Description: One of the key coins to the Type I Libertad (1982-1991) series. The 1987 mintage of 500,000 coins was the only year with less than one million mint state coins issued in the Type I series. PCGS certified population as of 10-18-2024 = MS67 168, MS68 50, MS69 0, MS70 0. NGC Census = 57/5/0/0. All MS67 and higher Type I Libertads are undervalued in relation to the level of the collector-investor base. MS69s are extremely rare or nonexistent for most dates and MS70s are nonexistent for all dates. Thus, MS67 and MS68 specimens are about as good as it gets for quality. The fair market value has risen steadily over time because more people have become aware of the rarity of Libertads when compared to other government issued silver and gold bullion coins.
