Description: 1981PGA CHAMPIONSHIP "The 63rd. PGA” At Atlanta Athletic Club, Atlanta, GeorgiaOriginal 16mm Sound & Color Film! Vintage 16mm color film sponsored by Canon Cameras, “The official photographic Consultant of the PGA”, showing the 63rd. PGA Tournament held at The Atlanta Athletic Club, Atlanta, Georgia. There is even a sort of “canon camera commercial” midway through the film, which is narrated by Chris Schenkel. There were some new and interesting features to the film that year – Shown is Dave Marr and part of the pre-tournament golf clinic with Dave Stockton, Lee Trevino and Jack Nicklaus demonstrating. “The Golden Bear” is miked and reminds the crowd not to make a common mistake with the clubs in your bag. Also mentioned is the Long Driving Contest, won by touring pro Lon Hinkle who hit the ball 338 yards off the tee, winning $10,000! There are a few interviews in the film: Muriel Autrey, Jr, president of the Atlanta Athletic Club talks about the club’s founder, the legendary Bobby Jones and you’ll get a peek inside the club at some of the golf memorabilia there. You’ll also hear from PGA president Joe Black and PGA secretary Mark Kizziar explaining that Lee Travino was disqualified after the opening round for not signing his scorecard. Notables who did not make the cut were Tom Watson and Ben Crenshaw. Other golfers you’ll see during play include early leader Bob Murphy, Dan Pohl, Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, Tom Kite, Andy North, Jerry Pate and more. On Saturday, Bob Eastwood is shown making a hole-in-one and the drive is re-shown in slo-motion, as Bob talks about it! Local fan favorite Larry Nelson has been in contention the entire tournament and when he birdies 11, 12 and 13 on Saturday he goes into the lead for good and scores a 66 for the second day in a row for a total of 202 after three rounds. On Sunday the final pairing is Fuzzy Zoeller (4 shots back at 206) and Nelson and the action follows them for most of the day. Zoeller is runner-up and Dan Pohl is third, while 7 golfers tie Jack Nicklaus for 4th! The presentation ceremony is shown with PGA President Joe Black presenting the Wanamaker Trophy to a beaming Larry Nelson with wife Gail. Runner-up Zoeller and Nelson each give their thoughts to the crowd. A nice golf collectible showing highlights from all four rounds of this historic tournament from 42 years ago.Condition: Film is over 1,040 feet long and has a short original countdown.
