Member of the Moscow Union of Artists (since 1986). Born in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR. Graduated from the Moscow secondary art school (MSHSH). He studied at the poster department of the Moscow State Institute named after V. I. Surikov (1956–1962) under professors M. M. Cheremnykh and N. A. Ponomarev. The issue of Karakashev is the last issue of the outstanding artist and teacher Mikhail Mikhailovich Cheremnykh. A happy chance brought Karakashev when he entered the Surikov Institute in the Poster Workshop. In this workshop, in addition to the poster, other easel art forms were also fully taught. As a result, a whole galaxy of remarkable universal artists emerged from its walls, among which was Vilen Karakashev. Thanks to a wisely set teaching system, with a poster as a core discipline, the students of the workshop of M. M. Cheremnykh were not suppressed by socialist realist dogma. Three of his thesis posters are published in a large edition by the Soviet Artist publishing house, then posters are published specially commissioned by the publishing house (“Freedom to Africa”, “One percent of the amount of military spending - and Africa is literate”). Immediately after graduating from the Surikov Institute, he began working in the field of film posters at the Reklamfilm publishing house, L. Ya. Levshunova, M. V. Lukyanov, V. I. Ostrovsky, Yu. nothing has yet been done in the political - social replicated poster. This is the time of the first wave of film posters. Artists working in other types of visual arts react with interest and attention to what happens in a movie poster, and vice versa.
