Long Island City, New York seems an unlikely place to meet a fellow Orleanian... particularly a famous one. It was a cold, rainy November day. And, as if by request, New Yorkers attending the re-opening of the Astoria Studios donned clothing which reflected the dreary, gray weather. Once inside the facility, which was the site of the making of such movies as "Cobra" with Rudolph Valentino, "The Scoundrel" with Noel Coward, Tallulah Bankhead's "Tarnished Lady," Gloria Swanson's "Manhandled" and the atmosphere was brightened only by the smiles of well known stars. Marlo Thomas and Charles Grodin, co-stars of "Thieves," the first commercial movie to be made at the studio since 1938, chatted with Joan Fontaine and the three posed for pictures.
