Edvard Grieg Edvard Hagerup Grieg (Norwegian: Edvard Hagerup Grieg) is a Norwegian composer of the Romantic period, pianist, conductor, and public figure. Grieg's work shows the influence of Norwegian folk culture (epic, music, dance, and modern everyday traditions). Grieg's most frequently performed works include two suites from the music for Henrik Ibsen's drama Peer Gynt, the Piano Concerto, and piano miniatures from the collections of Lyric Pieces. Grieg focused primarily on songs and romances, of which he published more than 600. About twenty more of his plays were published posthumously.
