New Slab Colavito comes up from the minors with impressive power numbers and was runner-up in Rookie of the year honors with the Indians. He supplied power and RBIs fairly consistently throughout his career. In 1960, Colavito was a participant in a remarkable trade that got everyone’s attention when Cleveland traded the Home Run Champ of the American League in ‘59, Rocco Colavito, for the American League Batting Champion in ’59, Harvey Kuenn, trading home runs for base hits. Colavito paid off with 35 home runs and Kuenn produced 52 less hits with Cleveland then the year before with Detroit. Cleveland traded Kuenn to San Francisco after one year, where he went on to play good ball for several years. Colavito continued to hit home runs and RBIs for the remainder of his career in baseball.
