In 1918, he organized and coached the “South Philadelphia Hebrew Association”. From the late 1920’s to the early 1940’s, the SPHAs dominated both the Eastern and American Basketball Leagues, winning multiple championships and beating the original Celtics and New York Rens in the same season. Gottlieb was the owner, general manager, and FIRST coach of the Philadelphia Warriors in the BAA / NBA. His team won the BAA’s FIRST championship in 1946 - 47 and captured the NBA title in 1956. Following the 1961 – 62 season, Gottlieb sold the Philadelphia Warriors franchise to a San Francisco Bay area credit card company. The relocated team was known as the San Francisco Warriors, right up until the beginning of the 1971 – 72 season, when the team name was changed again to the Golden State Warriors. Gottlieb was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a contributor in 1972. The annual NBA “Rookie of the Year” award, the "Eddie Gottlieb Trophy", is named after him. For 25 years, Gottlieb served as Chairman of the NBA Rules Committee. CONDITION: letter is guaranteed authentic and original. PLEASE READ: I have been buying + selling American historical autographs & documents for over 40 years and a former member of both the “Manuscript Society” and the UACC. Packages are shipped out within 1 – 3 business days, but typically the next day. Please understand, we do not make any money on shipping costs, but rather run a deficit over the course of a year. Most buyers don’t realize that ebay charges me a 13.3 percent FEE on the item sold, an additional 13.3 percent FEE on my quoted shipping charges, and another 13.3 percent FEE on the sales tax that ebay collects on the item. Everything we sell is packaged with the utmost care. Please read my ebay feedback over the last 25 years. The comments are often – the best packaging I have ever seen or “bullet proof” packaging. We do NOT offer returns for one simple reason. In the past, I have had some buyers purchase items from me and then proceed to shop them around during the return period to try and make a fast profit, without any financial risk. After they were unsuccessful, they returned the item to me. This information, however, made it back to me from different people I know who were directly offered my item immediately after I had sold it and before it was returned to me for a refund. Bid with confidence! You will receive the exact item pictured and in the same condition as described in my listing.
