You are bidding on: Mid Century Judaica Portrait of Biblical King David ~ 1964 ~ This powerful, expressionist style portrait of David, the biblical Israelite king and the first monarch of all the Israelite tribes, was painted in 1964 by an artist named Irv Ostrow. The painting is mixed media and encaustic on brown paper. It is a bold and graphic image with an authentic mid-century sensibility. The painting came from the home of a Jewish family of intellectuals...primarily professors and educators. I happened upon a sale at their craftsman home in a storybook neighborhood in Long Beach, California where they've lived for generations. The home is beautiful and was filled with wonderful treasures...that's why I had to include a picture! The artwork was done by an Uncle (Irv Ostrow) who lived on the East coast - both in New York and Florida. It's framed beneath an old linen mat. Beneath the mat - the artwork is protected by a pane of non-glare glass. I immediately fell for it because of its graphic nature. I asked them if they knew anything about the piece and they told me they had always been told it was a portrait of King David. Framed Measurements 25.5 x 31.25". Image Area 17 x 21.5".
