At the beginning of 1919, he was one of the founders of the KPD in Elberfeld. From the spring of 1920, Rudolf Renner worked in Saxony, where he became a popular figure in the revolutionary workers' movement. As a political leader of the proletarian hundreds of East Saxony, he was persecuted after the victory of reaction in the autumn of 1923 and lived illegally for a time.He visited the Soviet Union twice, in 1924 and 1929. He returned enthusiastic about the construction of socialism. As political secretary, editor-in-chief and member of the state parliament, he saw his main task as exposing fascism as a life-threatening danger to the German people, emanating from monopoly capital, and mobilizing all anti-fascist forces for a joint defense against it.Danger. On March 1, 1933, he went to Chemnitz together with Fritz Selbmann to try to convince the editor-in-chief of the Social Democratic newspaper "Volksstimme" Karl Böchel to support joint action by all workers' organizations against the Hitler regime. This attempt failed due to the anti-communist sentiments of the leaders of the right-wing SPD. On April 11, 1933, the Nazis arrested Rudolf Renner and in April 1934 he was sentenced to three years in prison. He was imprisoned in Waldheim Prison until 1936. The Nazis then deported him to the Sachsenburg concentration camp and in the spring of 1938 to the Buchenwald concentration camp.
