Description: I've had this special piece of history for about fifty years - now is the time to find a good new home for it. In the mid 70s I was early in my bass-playing journey, but already had an appreciation for vintage Fender basses. I had '64 and '66 Precisions - both great basses in their own right - but had an obsession to get a late 50s Precision. It was something about the gold anodized pickguard and maple neck. I found this one at a vintage guitar shop in Berkeley and traded straight-across for my two basses. There wasn't an original case to go with the '58, so I kept my '66 case which is included in this sale. The bass looked like this when I got it. I always fantasized that it went on the road with James Brown or some other legendary artist, but more likely may have made the rounds of something like the Chitlin Circuit - perhaps without the case which might explain the natural "relic'ing" of this bass. This bass is completely original, with a few small exceptions. I think I had the nut replaced in the 80s and didn't keep the old one, tuning machine screws were mis-matched so I replaced all with the correct type and size and kept the ones I removed, and as noted above the case. About 25 years ago, I removed the pots briefly and shortly thereafter re-installed them. Weight comes in at a svelte 8.2 lbs. Speaking of pots, they're Stackpole with date code 304807, which corresponds to the 7th week of 1958. The neck plate stamp is 026563, and as was the custom during the time of manufacture the neck "stamp" was penciled - "7-58" in this case. The headstock decal has the spaghetti logo with no patent numbers. Everything on this bass lines up as fully authentic from authoritative references. I retained the pickup and bridge covers, for some reason have two thumb rests (one no doubt from the '64 or '66), and the aforementioned screws - all go with the bass. The bass plays like a dream, and everything works as intended including the truss rod, tuning machines, and controls. I'm not a professional eBay seller; but have found it to be a good way to sell some of my stuff over the years. I've especially enjoyed working with fellow bass players on this platform. Please feel free to check the reviews and my 100% seller rating. I've always taken pride in providing thorough descriptions and communicating with interested parties. Let me know if you have questions. I'll pack well and ship promptly on receipt of payment. By the way, I also have a super clean and original 1966 Precision currently listed on eBay - feel free to check it out. Thanks for the interest!
