Description: 1951 Redware Glazed Greenish Colored with Brown Spots Stamped Flowers and Scalloped Base Stahl Pottery Powder Valley Pennsylvania For your Antique Redware Collection-StahlJar1951 Details Description: A beautiful and rather unusual glazed redware vase with bulbous body and flared mouth. The vase has a flat base, which extends beyond the body of the piece. The base has four cut outs giving is a scalloped shape, which is rather unusual. The sides of the vase are curved and rise to a shoulder having 3 incised lines. The shoulder supports a long neck ending in a wide outwards flared mouth. The piece is glazed inside and out but not on the bottom. The jar has a coloring typical of the Stahl Pottery. It is greenish brown with brown splotches of varying size throughout. The exterior wall has stamped flowers of two different designs. They are alternating on two different levels. Such a design is also very unusual for the Stahl pottery. The piece is glazed inside and out but not on the bottom, which shows typical coloring of unglazed redware. The bottom is marked Stahl pottery and dated by the potter. The piece is all original and is in very good condition. It has no breaks, no chips, and no repairs. The piece has general crazing to the glaze, which is difficult to see because of the color, but is there. It also has some of the usual manufacturing defects you would expect in a primitive piece of redware of this vintage such as pops, slubs, areas where the glaze did not fully flow, and unglazed spots. These issues are minor and this piece has very few of them. Be that as it may, this is just a great looking piece made in the Stahl Pottery in Powder Valley Pennsylvania.
