The pages have some discoloring along the edges. No dog ears though.. The pages have great spring in them and the binding is secure to the spine. The chessboard has been drawn on. There's also a smudge on the opening page. No moldy or musty smell at all. I have documented any signs of wear in the photos. What you see in the photos is exactly what you'll receive.
