The map shows the path taken by the unit from landing in Le Havre, passing through the Ruhr Pocket, and reaching the Soviet Army on the Austrian border, an area encircled and shown as "Hitler's Redoubt." The map is attractive and detailed, showing large portions of Europe from London to the Czech border.Three additional inset maps are provided, showing particularly important parts of the advance. The advance on the Rhine near Cologne, the drive into the Ruhr Pocket, and the final march to Austria (including a detail describing how the Black Hawks captured the crown jewels of Hungary) are all shown in detail with offensive positions noted. Additional detail at the base of the map provides statistics for the 86th Division's time in Europe.The 86th Division landed in France on the 4 of March and proceeded to cross the Rhine River in April. The Black Hawks were heavily involved during the last months of the war and captured numerous German soldiers despite having sustaining 84 casualties.
