With specially constructed apparatus the condition of the snow is studied and measured. Before avalanches are due to descent they are now made to come down by means of explosives. Hand-grenades are used if the location can be reached by a skilled skier. If big avalanches in a less accessible spot are involved, their descent is started by mine-throwers.Please Credit Photo K.
