Description: 1934-36 Diamond Stars #41 - Harvey Hendrick, Philadelphia Phillies - SGC 4.5On the Player - Harvey "Gink" Hendrick (1897-1941) was a Major League Baseball outfielder who played for several teams during his eleven-year career, including the New York Yankees (1923–1924), Cleveland Indians (1925), Brooklyn Robins (1927–1931), Cincinnati Reds (1931–1932), St. Louis Cardinals (1932), Chicago Cubs (1933), and Philadelphia Phillies (1934). Set Information - The 1934-36 Diamond Stars Baseball Cards (R327) was one of two baseball card sets issued concurrently from 1934-1936 by the National Chicle Company of Cambridge, Massachusetts. The companion set was titled Batter Up. In 1937, National Chicle was bankrupt, and their production of baseball cards, and of gum, ceased. A defining aspect of the Diamond Stars cards is the distinctive “Art Deco” card images and vivid backgrounds on the card front. On the card back is a player biography or baseball tip, credited to newspaper editor Austen Lake. The card size is 2-3/8" by 2-7/8". The card backs are printed generally in green ink for 1934 and 35, and blue ink for 1936. This card is unusual in presenting blue ink for 1935. According to PSA, the Diamond Stars set has 170 cards.
