A year after this novel was first published Harry Sinclair Lewis became the first author from the United States to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature, which was awarded "for his vigorous and graphic art of description and his ability to create, with wit and humour, new types of character". Green paperback covers with black lettering on the front cover and spine and an illustration of The Albatross on front and rear covers. Few spots of foxing on the half title page.
