Description: 1930's The Hemphill Diesel Engineering School Home Study Courses. Dimensions: approx. 9 inches X 11 inches X 1 1/2 inches, hard binder, good condition. Fascinating reading and a great collector's piece. A Los Angeles engineer named Ralph Hemphill opened the first Hemphill school in Los Angeles around 1930. It was the launch of what would become a national network of “America’s Original Exclusive Diesel Schools” that included locations in Memphis, Houston, Chicago, Seattle, and Vancouver, British Columbia. The schools taught people how to maintain giant diesel engines like those in bulldozers, generators, ships, trucks, tractors, and locomotives. The company was heavily promoted through national advertising in magazines like Popular Mechanics and grew substanbtialy through the early 1940's. However, after WW II, enrollement declined and the company eventually closed sometime in the 1950's. We are a Top Rated Plus eBay seller and stand behind every item we sell.
