She goes on to say that the Queen realizes that the large distances involved in Australia do mean that the solutions which worked elsewhere might not be applicable, ‘Yet, in Australia, as in England, such difficulties are apt to disappear in the presence of good-will and cordial co-operation and unity among all those who ere to derive benefit. The subject is one which appeals particularly to all women, and the Queen trusts that they will willingly give their support to any efforts which the Government find themselves able to undertake…’ with: early envelope inscribed (by Dame Janet ?) ‘Letter from the Queen to Mr. Bruce’ Provenance: Dame Janet Campbell (1877-1954, British physician and Medical Officer). An important letter in which the Royal support for Dame Janet’s official visit to Australia is made clear: evidently, this copy was given to Dame Janet to keep her ‘in the loop’.
