Bound in the publisher's original cloth, lacking the dust wrapper. Inscribed to the author's former boss, W. A. Foyle of the renowned Foyle's Bookshop, founded by William Foyle in 1903 alongside his brother. Fabes has written 'To William A. Foyle Esq, as a slight tribute of my esteem and admiration of a veritable King of Bookland. From Gilbert Henry Fabes', dated May 1927. Gilbert Fabes initially worked as a "out of the bag" bookseller, before joining Foyle's bookshop as Manager of the Rare Book Department in 1927. Fabes wrote a number of works surrounding the world of books, including this amusing "autobiographical" tale told from the perspective of a book. This charming story anthropomorphizes a book, recounting the painful story of it's binding to its journey to be read by numerous people, losing the companionship of a bookmark and witnessing many discussions by those around it. CONDITION Bound in the publisher's original cloth, lacking the dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with a little rubbing to cloth and the odd mark. Inscription to front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional handling mark. Pages are a little roughly cut.
