Twenty-five of the photographs are glued to paper and 27 are loose. Held in a worn binder with clasp at top margin, missing the cover. Very good condition.The first narrative, entitled “Frezied (Frenzied?) Fishing in the Famous French” recounts the adventures of a trio of men – John, Walt and Harry –on a canoe trip on the French River in Ontario, Canada. It is undated. The second, entitled “A Trip to Triplet”, describes an auto trip made by the same three from Cleveland, likely the travelers’ home town, to northeastern Kentucky for the purposes of “romance and adventure in sunny climes, and FISH.” It is dated August, 1921. The author is not identified, but he writes engagingly, recounting the details of locals they encountered. “Young Mr. Kelly, landowner, cantered in on a mule with a kettle of milk and stayed for watermelon. His speech was a remarkable mixture of hare lip and southern drawl but he was a youth of amiable disposition and kindly hospitality withal.” He also writes of sights they saw; obstacles faced due to weather, landscape, canoe and car; cooking and sleeping in camp; and mighty battles with fish that were caught and (as usual) even bigger fish that got away. The photographs show that they did catch some fair-sized fish – and quite a few at that – at least on the first trip. On the second trip, fish were scarce and they spent time shooting at tin cans, hiking and using an air gun to shoot what turned out to be very tough frog’s legs. Seems a grand time was had by all. Many fishing images, images of their camp, a small “ferry” across a river, their old car (“an early American eggbeater four”), and surrounding scenery.
